Orginally built in 1894, the Gougenhiem building is a landmark structure for the award winning Main Street. In 2000, Paul J. Allain, Architect A.P.A.C. was hired to renovate the building into a unique boutique hotel. The re-introduction of a new veranda balcony was designed to match to the original 1894 balcony. The damaged millwork was replaced, the stucco was repaired and repainted, the building was sprinkled to allow for the new occupancy and the structure was stablized and made code compliant. On the interior, a large banquet hall, a full kitchen, smaller gathering spaces and a variety of guest suites were designed. Cypress wood was salvaged and reclaimed during demolition and reused as interior moldings, fireplace mantels and cabinets throughout the building.
